OTag Challenges Australia (OTCA) is a not for profit incorporated association for the purpose of providing all Australians with personal physical fitness challenges to improve their health and fitness.
This is achieved through the installation of permanent timing technology and the creation of local physical activity programs and events.
The technology is located along existing community walking/running/cycling trails and measures their daily progress, stimulating interest in physical activity and personal fitness. A structured physical activity program focusing on aerobic fitness is offered to compliment the technology.
There are 14 million Australians overweight or obese. In 2008, the total annual cost of obesity to Australia, including health system costs, loss of productivity costs and carers’ costs, was estimated at around $58 billion.
The program is designed to increase social interaction and community connectedness, creating a stronger sense of community. Simultaneously it seeks to increase the number and diversity of people participating in community physical activity. Challenges Australia has sought to create an iconic healthy lifestyle program and networks of lasting benefit to the community.
